I'm continuing my classes in DreamWeaver, as well as starting some new classes in Flash and Fireworks. I'm eager to transition over to Adobe CS3 as soon as possible. If you haven't tried lynda.com, then I suggest you go there now and sign up. It beats any training class that I have taken locally and I can't say enough good things about it. May 10, 2007
On Thursday, I attended a graphic arts presentation at
the Clinton High School Career Complex, where my good
friend Cornelius Denson teaches Computer Graphics 1
and 2. We formed a panel of four judges and critiqued the second-year students' work, which contained roughly 8-10 pieces in their portfolio. It was an eye-opening experience, because these high school students are immersing themselves in graphic design programs prior to college. Thanks to Cornelius' teaching and mentoring, these students are going to be the next generation of great graphic designers. May 4, 2007
On Friday, I was asked to join some area artists to critique the student portfolios at Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS. My friend Kelly Trahan has been teaching graphic design there for several years and I was happy
to attend and provide my input. Also in attendance was Cheri Magee of the Godwin Group, who has a sharp eye for stylish designs. Kelly's students were well versed in their design software and I was very impressed with their second-year portfolios. Several of these students have great careers ahead of them and I was fortunate enough
to talk with them at length. It's a credit to Kelly's teaching skills that these students are doing so well. Unfortunately, Kelly has moved home to Pennsylvania, so Hinds has lost
a great teacher — and now I have to find somebody who will eat Mexican food with me.
